Electrogastrography (EGG) is a non-invasive method for measuring the electrical activity of the stomach muscles.

Purpose of the Procedure

EGG is used to evaluate patients with unexplained nausea, vomiting, or other symptoms that may be related to gastric motility disorders.

Procedure

  1. Electrodes are placed on the patient's abdomen over the stomach area.
  2. The patient lies still while the electrodes record stomach electrical activity.
  3. Recordings are typically done both before and after a meal.
  4. The test usually lasts for several hours.

Note: This is a completely non-invasive test and does not involve any discomfort.
